Cocktail party in La Jolla

A few weeks ago we went to a cocktail engagement party in La Jolla. There was, of course, plentiful food, dessert and tea. What was surprisingly not in plentiful supply was fruit and sabzi. However, there was some fantastic champagne.

Funny thing about cocktail parties in California is that 'cocktail attire' is not as clearly defined as it is in other locals, and actual cocktails are hard to come by. The bar was actually hidden away from most of the traffic flow and congregating areas.
I think the outdoor and garden part helped to throw a wrench in apparel selection at this particular event because the gamut was wider than usual, ranging from jeans with cute tops to full length formal gowns. I think our outfits were on the money, although I prefer Shandiz's wedding suit that is a more trim cut than this older, plain black one. I think that is about as stylish as he is willing to go, no ankle length, slim fit Daniel Craig/James Bond-esq suits for him.

Dressing for the party was a little tricky though because it was cocktail, but outside in the evening in the garden/patio/balcony areas so it was advised that no heels be worn.

Conundrum...especially with my toe handicap. I managed to find some thick BCBG heels to wear with the Laundry dress I got at Buffalo Exchange last summer. This dress was at Laundry when I worked there a few years ago and I always liked the effect of the black organza over the silk floral print (these pictures don't show it very well). Accessorized with plastic 'jet' necklace and earrings from Forever 21 :)

In case you have ever wondered, this is what a 1.5 year old looks like at a cocktail party:

Sara and Navid's wedding

Another wedding at the Beverly Hills hotel, this time a family friend. I didn't get enough pictures of the flowers or decor, there was lots, and everything matched. Even the dance floor. But, here we are.

My dress is BCBG, and I've got my wedding jewels on plus Sheila's emerald bracelet. Shandiz is wearing his wedding suit from Macy's and a skinny Penguin tie. Yes, I am wearing heels (Dolce & Gabbana as a matter of fact), but so is everyone else, and I guarantee theirs are taller than mine.

The best thing about this wedding was that they had a crazy little Scottish DJ that was playing fun Arabic and Persian techno music, well that and there were feathers in the center pieces.

Andre turns 1

Here are a few snaps from Andre's first birthday party at the YMCA in Laguna. He's such a cute kid even with the blue frosting his aunt smeared on his face while trying to feed him some cake :/

These are from Roya and Dariush's wedding last year and the Beverly Hills Hotel. Lots of fun and AMAZING flowers. We don't know these ladies, but thought it was hilarious. I think it is also important to point out that their wedding was at the end of May, in Southern California, so the level of necessity for wearing fur would be very low.
My dress is the bridesmaid dress my Aunt Belinda wore in my Aunt Juanita's wedding, or vice versa...? My Grandma Rau made it circa 1970 and with just a few modifications by my mother, it fit wonderfully. Shandiz's suit is my Macy's and his tie is Barneys private label.

salam!

I thought it would be fun to create a portal to the alternate universe we sometimes travel to where everything is fancy and bi-dazzled. This is a place worlds away from Lake Wobegon, but sometimes it is fun to take out the finery and show our fabulous sides to the sun.

So I will update this with pictures and such from Persian events we attend.
